The Pressure Is Off
If being ordinary, childlike, and humble means God will ‘clearly’ spell out the greatest revelation of His authority and His ways, then friend……ordinary is my goal!!!
As an entrepreneur, does that sound weird?
Here’s why I want to be ordinary….
“Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer: “Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. You’ve concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people. Yes, Father, that’s the way you like to work.”
Matthew 11:25-26 MSG

The CEV version replaces “sophisticates and know-it-alls” with the words ‘wise and educated’.
I really like this version too:
“At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.”
Matthew 11:25 NLT
I have been called to business owners. God has laid it on my heart to be a coach and consultant to them.
In that role, I want “His ways” to be spelled out clearly so I can help my clients in the very best way I can. I also want them to see and hear his plan “clearly”.
Here’s why I feel like the pressure is off for us? Being a business owner is tough. Then add to it the pressure to be anything but ordinary. But here’s God telling us it’s beneficial to be ordinary.
- How much effort is associated with being ordinary?
- How much planning?
- How much research?
- How much marketing?
When was the last time you read a marketing or business book about entrepreneurship and it told you to be ordinary? I’ve NEVER read anything like that until I ran across this scripture.
Honestly, with all the responsibilities of business ownership coupled with the push from every guru to be extraordinary, I found this little nugget a nice big gift…permission to slow down…a chance to let me shoulders drop and take a nice deep breath. To wait and listen long enough to hear the Still Small Voice.
I invite you to take 90 seconds and ask God how you can be a little more ordinary so he can clearly spell out his plans and the greatest revelation of His authority to you.
My prayer for your business this week:
Father God, as my friend launches into a new year, I pray for their business. I pray you would show them how to be more childlike so you know they are interested in Your plans. I pray for them to clearly hear Your voice for their business plans. We thank you for nuggets of truth and wisdom tucked away in your Word. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Humbly Yours,
Jennifer Edwards
